BELIEVE!!
Our daughter Clare was born on May 21st, 2007. We were overjoyed with the birth of our first child and began celebrating her birth immediately. This joy, however, soon changed to anxiety and sorrow. Clare was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome on June 18th, 2007. We mourned Clare’s diagnosis for in our minds many of the hopes and dreams we had once had for our daughter had disappeared. We cried for ourselves but mostly we cried for Clare. What would the future hold for her? Would she have the life that she so rightfully deserved or was it going to be a predetermined road of constant challenges? All of those little experiences in life that we take for granted Clare would either struggle to achieve or may never be able to experience. However, in the midst of all our sorrow, Clare soon taught us to to see her for her and not a diagnosis. She very quickly drew us out of this world of fear and self pity and forced us to start believing. Clare has taught us many things in these past 2 years. She has taught us to never take anything for granted, to always celebrate each accomplishment and triumph and most importantly Clare has taught us never to underestimate her ability and strength and to always believe in her.
Clare has helped us to not only believe in her strength but to also find and believe in our own. We ask that you also believe in Clare by supporting PWS research. Please support us in the One Small Step walk/run for PWS research and choose to believe.
